Flite reflects on OnlyFans stats and network growth

Some really fascinating stats from OnlyFans via Scott Galloway’s newsletter No Mercy No Malice.

The top 0.1% of creators capture 76% of revenue and earn an average of $146,881 per month.

The average creator earns just $150 to $180 per month.

Private messages drive about 70% of revenue vs. only 4% from actual subscriptions.

Seventy-one percent of users are male, but 84% of creators are female.

About 0.01% of subscribers are “whales,” who generate more than 20% of all revenue.

I post this because just this morning I was reading about network effects in David Burkus’s book Friend of a Friend. The stats are really interesting but the correlation with the book is more interesting to me - essentially studies around how the rich get richer, and the connected get more connected.

“…networks tend to follow a power law…whereby a few nodes hold massive numbers of connections.”

The lesson here in David’s words:

“The bad news is that building a network, or building awareness for your new brand, product, or company, is an uphill battle”. The good news is that it gets easier over time.”

“It might take a lot of initial hustle, but that hustle can slow down as early investments in building relationships being to pay dividends by bringing relationships to you”.
